The Story

"I want to tell you a story that my Dad used to tell me when I was a little girl. He would tell me this story mostly in the spring or early summer when there was a thunderstorm.

Now my little girls make me tell them the same story whenever there's thunder and lightning, so I think I should tell this story to you. I know it's true, because my Dad would never, never tell me a lie."

And so begins the charming story that explains to us "Where Thunderstorms Really Come From", guaranteed to ease the fears of the most resistive, young or old. Set in the spring in the early fifties, a fanciful but logical answer is presented for every aspect. Offered with a healthy respect for nature's wrath, anyone can go to sleep knowing the familiar calm that returns after the storm.

The Book

Privately published by Birchwood Originals, this family tale is presented in traditional classic style, 8.5" x 10.5" hardcover with gold lettering and cover picture in rich color, a 32 page signature of which 21 pages are full page color illustrations. The artwork is dazzling to the eye, the characters spring to life off the pages, the moon glows luminescently, while the colors are so lush you can practically smell the grass.

Made for wear and tear, it's meant to be read together with your favorite 6-12 year old. But we've discovered an awful lot of 25-85 year olds reading it by themselves, and there are so many pictures the younger kids can enjoy it too.

Author and Illustrator

The author, Kathy Pincus, wrote this while living with her husband and children in the woods of NE Ohio where writing children's stories is a pleasant break from the harsher routine of designing software applications for information processing.

The Illustrator, Lauri Neuding, also lives with her children in Ohio, where as a freelance artist she brings raw talent and magnificent attention to detail to all she touches in the world of advertising, publishing, and children's illustration. This book is their first collaboration, with more imaginative projects on the drawing board.
